The main difference is that the American system concentrates on developing your child’s critical thinking skills through creative learning at a young age, whereas the Egyptian system is based on rote memorization and the child’s efforts for the entire year are based on final exams. The rote memorization technique does not encourage children to learn on their own, but rather to memorize for one exam, most often forgetting all the material soon after the exam. The American system evaluates the child’s progress throughout the whole year and their grades are based upon the yearly average performance.
The American system has two terms which are divided into four quarters. Parent- teachers' conferences will be scheduled after each quarter; progress reports will be issued and discussed at this time. A final report card is issued after the fourth quarter. Parents will not be contacted monthly unless their child is experiencing any difficulty. Of course we encourage and welcome you to contact your child’s teacher with any concerns you may have. Simply call the school to schedule an appointment so we can ensure your child’s teacher(s) have ample time to spend with you.

Yes we are approved by the Ministry of Education. A student receives from EAS the American High School Diploma which is equivalent to the Egyptian High School Certificate according to the Egyptian Ministry of Education decree No.155 of the year 2004 . In accordance with the new decree from the Ministry of Education (four years ago), all international schools have to teach the same curriculum for the Arabic subjects as taught in the national schools under the supervision and control of the ministry. Additionally, the exams in these subjects are taken under the supervision and control of the ministry for all grades. The only exception is the students coming from overseas who choose not to take these exams…this exemption will not allow them to be eligible for government universities (only private universities or out of Egypt universities if they meet the necessary requirements).
Please look at the page (Admission Documents) for details.

In some special cases like those for students transferring from non-Arabic speaking countries, exams in Arabic and Religion may be postponed until college years, but students are not allowed to graduate from colleges in Egypt before passing these exams.
